If you can’t focus on your company’s search engine optimization strategy because you can’t stop yawning, it doesn’t necessarily mean that you need to get some rest. We find it hard to believe, but there are actually people who find the topic of online marketing to be boring, which could cause a yawn or two. Then again, your yawns might not have anything to do with SEO services at all. It could just be that your co-worker yawned.
Researchers say it’s not a question of if yawning is contagious, but rather why it’s contagious.
In fact, yawning is so contagious that even reading about it probably has you yawning. Seriously. As Psychology Today reported, just reading the word can set you off. “Contagious yawning is a phenomenon that only occurs in humans and chimpanzees as a response to hearing, seeing, or even thinking about yawning,” they say.
What Does Yawning Say About You
Meredith Williamson, a clinical assistant professor at Texas A&M College of Medicine, told WebMD, “We don’t know why yawns are contagious. Researchers used to think that yawning was only signaling a need for sleep, but now they believe that it can communicate a shift in alertness or boredom.”
The experts at WebMD point out there could be something else at work. “One theory is that contagious yawning is related to empathy, and that people with higher levels of empathy yawn more often when someone else yawns, compared to people with lower levels of empathy or those with a mental disorder,” they say.
Research indicates that there are some people who are less susceptible to contagious yawning, including:
- Children younger than 4
- Older adults
- Those with autism or schizophrenia
On the other hand, even your dog can even “catch” the yawns from you!
So, be honest, how many times have you felt the urge to yawn while reading this blog post? And it didn’t have anything to do with search engine optimization, did it? With the results or SEO company can deliver, you might even begin to find online marketing to be exciting.
